Grandchildren’s Tour to Atlanta, GA Before School Starts Getaway
1st Day: Upon arrival in Atlanta, GA we will check into our home for the next three nights. After checking in, we will head to downtown to begin our family fun. Our first stop is at Centennial Olympic Park featuring the popular Fountain of Rings. The park was the world’s gathering place during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Next, dinner is included at an Atlanta tradition, The Varsity. The World’s Largest Drive-in sits on more than two acres and can accommodate 600 cars and over eight hundred people inside. It sells more than two miles of hotdogs daily, a ton of onion rings, 2500 pounds of fresh cut potatoes, 5000 homemade fried pies, and 300 gallons of chili, all of which are made from scratch daily. The downtown Varsity is also the world’s largest single outlet for Coca-Cola. This is where the now famous cry of The Varsity started “What’ll Ya Have”. Following dinner, we’ll head to Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves, to see a major league baseball game. (Note: The Braves game is subject to change if they are not playing at home during this time.) (D)
2nd Day: We will spend today at Six Flags Over Georgia. Six Flags Over Georgia is the largest regional theme park in the Southeast and is the premier destination for affordable, family fun. The park boasts ten thrilling roller coasters — headlined by the hyper-coaster Goliath, one of the tallest coasters in the Southeast and Mind Bender, the classic triple-looping coaster. Skull Island features slides and splashes for guests of every age. Plus Bugs Bunny World provides hours of fun for the smallest guests. Now open, Dare Devil Dive, a thrilling new roller coaster that takes riders up a 10-story vertical lift before plunging over a beyond-vertical first drop. The park has just about every kind of ride for every kind of rider. From towering coasters to family-pleasers, like a classic carousel, they’ve got you covered. We will pick up at 8:00pm this evening and head to Stone Mountain Park to see the Lasershow Spectacular. This not-to-be missed Atlanta tradition promises to wow your family, as it will be taller than the Statue of Liberty and up to five times the size of an IMAX screen! State-of the-art digital graphics and awe-inspiring effects create multi-dimensional magic on one of the world’s largest outdoor screens - Stone Mountain. The Laser Canopy creates a dazzling display of neon laser lights featuring characters, stories, graphics and fireworks choreographed to popular musical scores, transforming the park into a natural amphitheater. Returning to the hotel after the light show. (CB)
3rd Day: This morning we will head to the World of Coca-Cola, where the famous soft drinks’ story is told through fascinating exhibits, classic ads and a fanciful representation of the bottling process. Taste Coca-Cola products from around the world and pick your favorite before raiding the gift shop for souvenirs. Next, we go to the Malibu Grand Prix Family Entertainment Center. Race to victory on the Go Kart Tracks, become a golf legend on the Mini Golf Course, or get the highest score in the giant arcades. They’ve got all the greatest attractions and games so there’s plenty of fun for all ages. Lunch is also included. We return to the hotel late this afternoon and have a little time to freshen up before our evening activity. Tonight, we’ll attend the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. Step back in time to the era of jousting knights and pageantry. Enjoy the thrilling action, four-course feasting and showmanship that make this an ideal destination for all ages. Cheer on the knights as they duel in out in this unique two-hour show that is sure to please grandchildren and grandparents alike, and any age in between. (CB, L, D)
4th Day: This morning we will be going to the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the world. There are more than 100,000 freshwater and saltwater fish and mammals, including five Beluga whales and two whale sharks, the largest fish in the world. You’re sure to see things you’ve never seen before! As you enter the huge atrium inside the building, you will be led into the facility by “a wall of fish” guiding you inside. Once inside, there are five galleries to see: Georgia Explorer has a lighthouse; River Scout displays a cascading waterfall; Cold Water Quest has an ice covered cliff; Ocean Voyager offers a peek window into the huge habitat and Tropical Diver has two video screens displaying the perspective of a fish on a reef. After lunch we will depart for home, arriving back approximately 9:00pm. (CB)
Special Notice: Balance is due 30 days prior to departure. Cancellations within 30 days of departure will result in payment forfeiture.
