The American Experience

1st Day:  This morning we head to our Nation’s Capital.  After lunch we will proceed to George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens.  As our nation’s first president, George Washington is a timeless and inspirational hero to people all around the world.  At Mount Vernon, your self-guided tour will include the Mansion, gardens, and grounds.  You can also visit Washington’s tomb, see the innovative Pioneer Farmer site with its 16-sided barn, the inspirational Slave Memorial, important outbuildings, lush gardens, and museums with exhibitions on Washington and Mount Vernon archaeology.  After visiting Mount Vernon, we will check into our home for the next two nights. The evening is free so we can get ready for a full day of touring tomorrow.
  
2nd Day:  Today, we will have a professionally guided tour of our Nation’s Capital.  We will see the following sites: National WWII Memorial, Photo stop at the U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress, Drive by the Supreme Court Building, National Archives, Drive by Embassy Row, Drive by National Cathedral, Photo stop at the White House, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial and The Korean War Veterans Memorial. After dinner, we will take a riding tour of the city, to include a stop at the Jefferson Memorial, before we return to the hotel.
   
3rd Day:  We will head to the Arlington Cemetery, America’s largest national burial ground with more than 500 acres of landscaped hills.  Among the thousands of white headstones are the graves of President John F. Kennedy, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and boxer Joe Louis.  Also witness the changing of the guards.  Next, we will visit the spectacular Smithsonian Institution, where you can look at all the wonders.  The Smithsonian Institute is the world’s largest museum complex with 19 museums.  About three percent of the museum’s 143  million objects are on display at any one time. Later this afternoon we will head for home, thus capping off a wonderful tour of our Nation’s Capital.  Arriving home approximately 10:00 PM.
